Projects
While most of my individual pieces vary in subject, my longer-running projects are usually based in environmental issues and conservation. It’s one thing to make art and it’s another thing to make art that means something. These projects are meant to give the planet a voice that it wouldn’t otherwise have in the human culture of indifference.
Bottle Cap Buddies
When I go out on walks, I usually pick up trash to help clean up my neighborhood. One of the things I find a lot of are bottles and bottle caps. I remember I saw an artist at a craft fair when I was little who sculpted little octopi and put them in small seashells. This concept of little sculpted buddies inside little containers combined with my environmental mission and gave me the idea to reuse thrown-away bottle caps as little containers/display stands for sculpted animals. And thus: the Bottle Cap Buddies were born!
Mythical Minis
Have I mentioned how much of a nerd I am yet? This sub-section of Bottle Cap Buddies was created when I thought about stuffing little pieces of reclaimed trash inside wine caps to fill them in. That combined with my dorky brain and made me think of how in the fantasy genre, dragons gather up as many shiny things as possible in their area and keep it as treasure. I thought about how miniature dragons would probably do the same thing, but with smaller shiny objects!
So not only are the wine bottle caps reclaimed to use as containers/display stands, but the little treasures inside them are also reclaimed and guarded by a fearsom (cute) dragon!
And why stop at dragons?! Check back soon and I’m sure you’ll find other mythical creatures to inhabit these small, cylindrical thrones…
Bushfire Relief Koalas
When the Australian Bushfires began toward the start of 2020, my fiancée and I watched the news heartbroken. Both of us love and have a passion for nature and seeing the damage the bushfires caused was soul crushing. I felt I needed to do something to help. So I used my new digital art software to create some koala stickers. I sold stickers and gave all the money to World Wildlife Fund Australia. As of April 2020, over $300 USD ($450 AUD) has been raised and donated to help with the bushfire recovery efforts.
The stickers are still for sale on my Etsy and I’m still donating the money from their sales to WWF Australia to aid with their continuing mission to restore the ecosystems and help the wildlife that was affected by the devastating wildfires.
The World is our Trash Can
It’s one thing to raise awareness about an issue, but it’s another thing to do something about it. The world’s environments are suffering because of us. One of the most obvious examples of our deleterious effect on nature is all the litter and pollution that surrounds us.
“The World is Our Trash Can” is a series I started to show people exactly how present and how big of a problem littering is. I’ll go out on errands or walks and simply pick up the trash I find along the way. This isn’t me seeking out trash to find or taking out the trash bag from my room and calling it art. These bags are filled with the garbage that we pass by and accept as part of our daily routines.
At its core, this project is different because it’s not really art so much as a constant visualization of a message: the world is our trash can.
Stickers
After the success of the koala stickers, I expanded my sticker making into other territories.
I’ve been doodling cute little dogs since high school, so I decided to keep on doodling and make stickers out of them. Some dogs I come up with on the spot, while others are based off real-life pets.
So far my most popular stickers are my cryptid stickers. They’re the same kind of doodling style and turn the creepy and mysterious creatures of lore into cutsie little guys you can put on your laptop or phone case or wherever they’ll stick.
My stickers are available on my Etsy page which is continuously restocked and added to, so feel free to check them out!
